One of the options when purchasing our tickets for this event was a porsche driving experience. The description was vague but mentioned driving with an expert and then participating in an autocross. Sounded really good, but we had no idea what it was going to turn into. We attended the drivers meeting and signed all the release forms (you know those forms tbat release from responsibility ahould something go wrong). Haha. There were over 80 cars with anout 200 participants. They split us into 3 groups and each group had a different route to take. It was like a poler run without the cards. There were 4 or checkpoints. The whole idea was to keep everyone from showing up at all the events at the same time.
So off we went. It was so fun to be in the co-pilot seat again, navigating us to areas we had never been, tracking miles, directing my driver, making each checkpoint on time.
There's so much to tell I will be splitting these into separate posts. Our first checkpoint was to see the private car collection of John Campion. No pictures were allowed our of respect for the security of the cars. We arrived at a warehouse that looked like nothing on the outside. Inside it was s fabulous man cave. There were 14 cars, memorabilia of pictures and car parts, a bar and lounge on the cat walk and a fully caitered breakfast. He appeared in the room casually in jeans and with his iris accent, began telling stories about each car. He has 1958 356 porsche, bright red italia, alfa romero, fiat dino, ferrari, porsche ruff turbo, and a GT40 to name a few. We were in awe of his presence and generosity. We visited for an hour, shared a cup of coffee, and then off we went to the next checkpoint.
